What Are the Different Types of Sports Bets?
There are a variety of different types of sports bets that can be made. The most common types of bets are money line, point spread, and totals (over/under). However, there are also many other types of bets that can be made, such as parlays, teasers, if-bets, and prop bets.
Money line:
A money line bet is simply a bet on which team will win the game. The odds will be expressed in either American odds or decimal odds. American odds will either be a positive number or a negative number. A positive number indicates how much money you would win if you bet $100. A negative number indicates how much money you would need to bet in order to win $100. Decimal odds will always be a positive number and indicate how much money you would win if you bet $1.
Point Spread:
A point spread bet is a bet in which you pick a team to win, but the winning margin is determined by a point spread. The point spread is usually set by odds makers in an attempt to make the two teams equally attractive to bettors. The favourite will have to win by more than the point spread in order for bettors who bet on them to win their bets.
Parlays:
A parlay is a bet that combines two or more bets into one with w88th. The winnings from the first bet are used as the stake for the second bet, and so on. If any of the bets in the parlay lose, then the entire parlay loses. Parlays can be a very risky bet, but they can also lead to very large payouts.
Teasers:
A teaser is a type of parlay in which the point spread or total is adjusted in favour of the bettor. For example, if the point spread on a football game is originally set at 7 points, a bettor could adjust the point spread to 4 points in their favour as part of a teaser bet. Teaser bets are usually only offered on sports that have point spreads, such as football and basketball.
If-Bets:
An if-bet is a bet that combines two or more bets into one, but unlike a parlay, an if-bet does not require all of the bets to win in order for the better to win. With an if-bet, the first bet must win in order for the second bet to be placed. If the first bet loses, then the entire if-bet loses. If the first bet wins, then the second bet is placed, and so on.
Prop Bets:
A prop bet is a bet on anything that is not directly related to the outcome of the game. For example, a prop bet could be on which team will score the first touchdown, or how many yards a certain player will gain total. Prop bets are usually offered on all major sporting events.
